Green Day 21st Century Breakdown Australian Tour

Green Day will tour down under at the end of the year. I am surprised they are coming so soon but they have a pretty massive fan base here so I guess they're capitalizing on that. I have to say I've always been a bit wary of bands that have been in the indie/punk or whatever scene and then suddenly become commercially successful. However, in the case of Green Day I think they deserve it and I'm impressed by how many youngsters (I guess 16 and younger...btw this makes me feel really old) have taken to their old stuff and know more about their history and music than me.

I don't think 21st Century Breakdown has been as MEGA as American Idiot but I do think that American Idiot was perfectly timed for the band as it fitted right into pop & political culture of the time. I will be honest with you I haven't heard the whole of 21st Century Breakdown only the two singles and the B-side but when I do I'll definitely tell you what I think!

Well the shows for this year look to be only one per major capital city but it seems there is room for more if they do so sell well. I doubt I'll be going to this one since I saw them in 2005 on their American Idiot World Tour. They were great live and it was made even better by the fact that the last Melbourne show was the official end of the worldwide tour for AI so it was pretty special. However, I don't think I'm willing to part with my $ for this one.

2009 Album Releases: GREEN DAY - 21st CENTURY BREAKDOWN

Are you all excited about Green Day's new album? It's officially set for release on May 15th 2009. Well get excited because it's countdown time as their first single 'Know Your Enemy' will be released mid-April. Here is the cover for the single..pretty nifty.

Also, you can catch the latest news from the widget below but most importantly you can get a taste of 'Know Your Enemy'. Ok, the snippet of the song suggests their sound will remain similar to that of the 'American Idiot' record. Though, I hope the record does offer a few surprises.

By the way had a awesome time at the V Festival and was second row from the front for Razorlight, Kaiser Chiefs and the Killers.....woooohooo!!!! Will review in full later.

2009 Album Releases: GREEN DAY - 21st CENTURY BREAKDOWN

Hey all,
The follow up to Green Day's hugely successful American Idiot is 21st Century Breakdown. It will be released in May 2009. This is good news as they kind of fell off the face of the earth for a while with limited news on what they were doing. It will be produced by Butch Vig who did Nirvana's Nevermind and is the drummer from Garbage which makes me curious about the sound. Will it be a concept album like American Idiot, yet commercial, or will it based more in the punk roots of their past e.g. 'Insomniac' & 'Dookie'? I am now even more excited than I thought I would be about this record and it is all because of Butch. I hope it is innovative and filled with awesomness!!!! Also, here is the cover art for all those that are interested.
What do you think and what do you expect from this record?

I will post a few articles that give details about songs from those that have heard some of it.
Edit: It will have 16 tracks and is broken into 3 Acts.
